Brent Venables’ honeymoon period is over: Oklahoma coach getting hammered on social media
Oklahoma’s fall from grace in 2022 has been swift and dramatic.
After rising to No. 6 in the polls in late September, the Sooners lost to Kansas State to close out the month and then TCU a week ago.
Today, they’re getting absolutely embarrassed in a rivalry game, as Texas leads 49-0 in the 4th quarter.
Brent Venables was hired during the offseason to replace Lincoln Riley, who unexpectedly left for USC.
Venables was previously at Clemson as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator and had long been regarded as one of the top defensive coaches in college football.
His first team at Oklahoma, however, has now allowed 145 points over the span of the last 11-plus quarters it has played.
Needless to say, the honeymoon is over for Venables, who’s getting blasted on social media agin this week:
Man….Brent Venables isnt going to be at Oklahoma long with performances like this against Texas. Some people just aren't cut out to be HCs…great DC…wonder if he is regretting leaving Tiger Town.

Going from Lincoln Riley to Brent Venables is like handing the controller to your little brother in Madden

Brent Venables honeymoon at OU lasted six weeks. And that’s being generous because I’m sure the natives were pissed after the K-State and TCU losses. It’s officially over now. Getting dog-walked in his first Red River.
