The past two seasons, Oklahoma QBs Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray have won the Heisman Trophy.

So far this year, Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts seems to be following in their footsteps under Lincoln Riley. In four games, he’s thrown for 12 touchdowns and run for 5 more.

On this week’s SDS Podcast, the guys talked to ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who thinks it’ll be tough to beat Hurts’s story when it comes time to vote for the Heisman:

“I think Jalen Hurts is gonna be a tough out,” Herbstreit said. “I almost feel like he’s the sentimental favorite of the nation because of what he went through. Tell me who on his schedule is gonna stop him. They might lose a game, but tell me who’s going to stop him from having a monster game. Not Texas. It’s gonna be a shootout between (Hurts) and (Sam) Ehlinger. I’ll err on the side of Jalen Hurts.”

Of course, guys like Ohio State’s Justin Fields, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and LSU’s Joe Burrow will have their say before all is said and done, but Hurts has been fantastic this year.

Who will win this year’s Heisman? We’ll find out in a couple of short months.
