It’s a legacy commitment for Oklahoma. Mike Hawkins Sr. was an Oklahoma cornerback before playing in the NFL from 2005-to-2009. Another Hawkins could be wearing crimson and cream, too. Maliek Hawkins, Michael’s brother, is a cornerback prospect in the Class of 2025.
As for Michael Hawkins Jr., he is listed at over 6-2 and 195 pounds. A former Allen High School standout now at Frisco Emerson, he is rated 4-stars, the No. 19 quarterback, No. 53 Lone Star State recruit and No. 311 prospect overall nationally for 2024 on the 247Sports Composite.
What Hawkins’ commitment means for the Sooners
It’s never too early to get a quarterback commitment. Recruiting for the 2024 cycle is picking up as players plan their spring and summer visits.
Quarterbacks are expected to be team leaders, and in many cases that starts before they graduate high school. It helps the Sooners’ recruiting efforts of offensive players when Hawkins can pitch them directly on being teammates in Norman.
With Hawkins on board, Oklahoma has a bright outlook at college football’s most important position for the foreseeable future.
Oklahoma’s Future QB room is looking STRONG ??
2023: Five-Star Jackson Arnold
2024: Four-Star Michael Hawkins
2025: Four-Star Kevin Sperry
Always a good way to build around your classes with QBs like this in the fold‼️ #BoomerSooner pic.twitter.com/QFwGZyo2wH
