Saturday’s LSU vs. Ole Miss matchup had just about everything you can ask for from a college football game — lots of offense, 2 outstanding quarterback performances, late game heroics and a controversial touchdown call.

While college football fans watching the game were all winners, it was the Rebels who came away with the 55-49 win in a game that was one for the ages.

It was the signature win that Ole Miss desperately needed, and now the Rebels have the chance to make a run for the SEC Championship.

Here are some takeaways from Saturday night’s shootout.

Rebels torch Tigers’ sloppy defense

LSU’s defense was shaky in the first half, and Ole Miss made sure to take advantage of it.

In the first half, the Ole Miss picked up nearly 400 yards of total offense and 31 points, which is they have put up in a half against the Tigers since 1998.

LSU’s offense was great in the first half and should’ve gone into the break with a big lead, but the defense held it back and the Tigers trailed by 3 points heading into the second half.

The second half was another shootout as Ole Miss continued to have its way with LSU’s defense, but the Rebels’ defense also wasn’t pretty as the Tigers’ marched down the field nearly every drive.

Ole Miss ended the game with 706 yards of total offense.

Jaxon Dart delivers

Ole Miss knew it would need a strong showing from its quarterback to get a win over LSU, and Jaxon Dart gave the Rebels exactly what they needed.

Dart had 389 yards and 4 touchdowns on the game. He led the Rebels on what would be a game-winning drive to score with less than a minute to go.

It was the kind of performance a coach dreams of from his quarterback in a big game, and another moment where Dart showed just how good he can be.

Rebels bounce back, but still have long way to go

A loss to Alabama last week certainly derailed Ole Miss’ hopes of an SEC Championship or more postseason success, but the win over LSU put the Rebels back in the race for the SEC West.

The stars will have to align for Ole Miss to reach the SEC Championship, but Alabama and LSU both have tough schedules that will make things difficult.

Ole Miss will need to have some more performances like Saturday’s as the Rebels take on teams like Arkansas and Georgia.
