Chris Beard addresses alleged domestic assault incident that led to arrest while at Texas
Chris Beard made sure to discuss the alleged domestic assault incident that occurred while he was at Texas at Tuesday’s press conference. Beard is set to become the next head coach of Ole Miss men’s basketball.
The original incident happened on Dec. 12 when Beard and his fiancée Randi Trew reportedly got into a confrontation. Beard was later fired by the Longhorns on Jan. 5.
Beard was officially hired at Ole Miss on Monday. On Tuesday, he insisted reports about the incident were “proven to be not accurate.”
“What was reported December 12th has been proven to be not accurate,” said Beard. “I appreciate Randi (Trew) for setting the truth.”
Beard also stated that he did not lose confidence that he would be coaching basketball again after what happened in the last 90 days.

Beard came to Texas from Texas Tech. Beard led the Red Raiders to a National Championship appearance in 2019. Texas Tech would go on to eventually lose to Virginia in overtime 85-77. Beard left Texas Tech for Texas in April of 2021.
Kermit Davis was fired by the Rebels on Feb. 24 shortly after losing to Auburn a few days prior. After Davis’ firing Ole Miss finished the season with a loss to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament. The Rebels ended the year at 12-21.
Beard’s overall record as head coach is 237-98. Can he right the ship in Oxford?
Not saying he is guilty, but the accuser retracting their statement and refusing to cooperate is not a sign of innocence. As the 911 call and other evidence is unlikely to ever be made public in full it will continue to be an area of speculation.
Agreed. We haven’t seen anything for certain and likely never will.
What ever happened to that little thing in the U.S. Constitution known as the presumption of innocence until proven guilty?
Doesn’t apply to the court of public opinion, nor does ‘presumption of innocence’ appear in the constitution.
Boom!
All you have to do is read the police report.
He bit her, he punched her, he knocked her down.
She dropped the charges and for what ever reason he was not prosecuted anyway by the state of Texas.
It definitely happened, but he wasn’t prosecuted.
it definitely happened because she said it did but then recanted? That police report is such garbage even Judge Wapner wouldn’t allow it.
Where is the tape Beard said he had that would prove his innocence? UT would have kept him had he been “innocent.”
TX may not have wanted the media circus to continue.
UT did their due diligence and determined they did not want a coach who had been arrested for felonious Assault by Strangulation representing their university. He would have been torn apart by the media in Austin. Beard will be fine in a small town like Oxford.
UT has a problem with “wokeness” and a near terminal fear of “bad press”. They fired Beard before the judicial process was completed. Austin PD is infamous for “exaggerating” what happened on arrest reports of domestic disturbances. Travis county DA realized that Beard was seriously lawyered up and the former (or at least I hope for his sake former) girlfriend realized she was going to lose her meal ticket and totally recanted her former statement made while she was heavily intoxicated. DA’s don’t like going to court unless they can win and when faced with a serious defense attorney and an unreliable (at best) witness who’d recanted the Travis County DA’s office knew it was best to drop that one rather than face getting torn to shreds in a trial and sued for malicious prosecution later.
UT quietly paid him off so he wouldn’t release the tape publicly and no doubt gave him a good reference. Hence why a school like Ole Miss would hire him. UT is just glad he’s gone, the whole thing is over and they’re not getting sued.
All Beard and Ole Miss have to do is allow all the evidence to be released. Never gonna happen cause it would paint a horrible picture of Beard.
The police report also says that she was obviously drunk when she made those claims. She told a totally different story when sober. It is a case of “he said, she said” but one where she changed what she said.
The only thing that changed was her saying she started it. He definitely got physical with her
You should make a citizen’s arrest, Barney Fife.
@Ron You should care enough about other human beings
Alcohol is a helluva drug.
In all seriousness, it makes me cringe when adults can get to the point of losing control when drinking. A LOT of problems in society could be solved, especially domestic issues that get passed from generation to generation, if people knew their limits and respected them. Some of the nicest and most loving people turn into monsters when they drink enough.
Did her injuries disappear when she sobered up? Nope. They were still there.
She didn’t drop the charges. The DA’s office dropped the charges. DA’s drop charges when they know they haven’t got any hope of winning and don’t want to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on a trial they know they’re going to lose.
They State can bow up but intimately can’t win a case in which no affiant exist and any other evidence would be hearsay because of it. I think the dude is a D-bag and a good coach (he can be both) but what bothers me is his statement, though, it’s not like he can get up there and say I’m sorry for what I did either.
She went into a bedroom where he was reading and ripped his glasses off his head and broke them. She was going crazy and he probably restrained her. No evidence of choking. He is guilty of being with a psycho gal.
“Beard’s overall record as head coach is 237-98. Can he right the ship in Oxford?”
Yes.
Hopefully Beard doesn’t choke and loose close games! His philosophy is playing suffocating defensive and he loves to manhandle his opponents. We’ll see what type of team he’s able to wrap his hands around in Oxford.
Plenty of good solid candidates out there with zero baggage that Ole Miss could have hired. This could really backfire on them.
Coming from a UF fan where UF looked the other way during Urban Meyer’s tenure.
I don’t think so. His only problem was being with a psycho gal. She initiated the confrontation and he restrained her. There was never physical evidence that he chocked her.
Beard and Ole Miss better pray the on-scene officer’s body cam video and the pic’s of the vic’s injuries never gets released cause they’re not good. Also the answers he provided at his presser were awful. He beat the charge but he didn’t beat the ride. Those pic’s and video of him in jail are not going away.
the best you can muster is a pic/video of someone being arrested?!! thank you for confirming that Ole Miss did its proper due diligence before hiring Beard.
I’d love to see the so-called evidence Beard is speaking of that contradicts what has been reported. Other than his girlfriend recanting her story, which occurs about 99% of the time in family violence cases, it’s overwhelming according to him but yet he can’t speak about it. Everyone with any sense knows exactly why he won’t go into any detail.
Really? 99% of the time women recant? I’d like to see the “evidence” supporting that claim. Ever occur to you that part of the settlement his lawyer reached with UT was NOT to disclose that video or videos? Nobody in Austin whether it was Beard, UT, the “girlfriend”, the Austin PD, or the DA wanted this matter to go to court. If the DA’s office had a case they thought they could win….or get a plea deal out of….they’d have gone forward. The fact that they publicly dropped the charges shows they knew they had an absolute loser of a case and didn’t want to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on a trial they’d lose and give Beard’s lawyers ammunition to sue the Travis County DA and UT.
