Daeshun Ruffin announced Monday that he will be entering the transfer portal and likely not staying under incoming head coach Chris Beard, previously of Texas.
Ruffin stepped away from the Rebels program in early February to focus on mental and physical health following multiple injuries across his 2 years in Oxford. The former 4-star recruit has averaged 11.3 points per game across his career. He averaged 9.5 point per game in 11 games last season.

Some concerns have arisen for Ruffin despite his occasional flashes. For one, his injury issue: Ruffin tore his ACL in February of 2022, leading to a slew of minor injuries until he stepped away from the team this past February.
Then there’s the elephant in the room. At 5-9, Ruffin would need to be an elite shooter or defensive player to truly see SEC minutes in a revamped roster, likely what is coming under Beard. However, Ruffin is a sub-30% 3-point shooter across his career and just a good, not great defender. Of course, injuries are keeping the former McDonalds All-American from his true potential.
Ruffin does see the floor very well. His 3.2 assists per game last season is impressive considering he did not see the floor much. If he can get his shooting numbers up he could be a solid Power 6 option, at least off the bench.
