Ole Miss has an electric offense.

Quarterback Chad Kelly fits well within the Rebels’ downfield passing attack; however, while Hugh Freeze has certainly had some talented players at several positions, he hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher during his tenure.

Redshirt freshman Eric Swinney is trying to change that.

Swinney impressed the coaching staff during Monday’s practice enough for Freeze to point him out during his time with the media.

“He looked very good today,” Freeze said of Swinney. “He hasn’t had a ton of carries, but today he looked quick, powerful, strong and he finished runs well. I like what I saw.”

The 5-foot-9, 197-pound back is looking to break the mold for Freeze at Ole Miss and have a notable season. Jeff Scott recorded the most yards in 2012 under Freeze, rushing for 846 yards and six touchdowns.

Swinney missed the 2015 season following surgery for a stress fracture he suffered last July.

The Georgia native was rated as the No. 122 prospect overall in his class by the 247Sports Composite Rankings and was rated the No. 13 running back.
