If there’s one thing NFL analysts love, it’s talking about how much tape they watch.

If they watch that much tape, you’d think there’d be no need for the NFL Combine, because the tape would have revealed everything there is to know about a player.

So, after everyone was impressed with Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf over the weekend as he dominated the NFL Combine, it didn’t take long for ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill to take to Twitter to throw cold water on the hype. As you can see below, Luginbill calls out Metcalf for a lack of production at Ole Miss:

If Luginbill did actually look at the Ole Miss tape, he’d have noticed that Metcalf was missing for five of the Rebels’ 2018 games due to a neck injury. In those seven games he did play, he was on pace for a 1,000-yard season (26 catches, 569 yards and five touchdowns).

Will Metcalf become a star in the NFL? The truth is no one knows for sure at this point. We’ll have to wait and see where he ends up in April’s NFL Draft and how he fares this fall.
