Hugh Freeze's first press conference since announcing sanctions
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze held his first press conference following his school’s Friday release detailing the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations and the self-imposed sanctions against the team.
Freeze began his Tuesday press conference with a prepared statement:
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze reading a prepared statement concerning NCAA violations: “We’ve been as honest as we can through the process"
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 31, 2016
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze: “I stand here today owning our mistakes. That’s what they are, mistakes. Not coaches out there buying players"
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 31, 2016
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze: “13 charges, 4 predate me; 9 under my watch; 4 of those serious charges, 3 which have nothing to do w/our staff”
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 31, 2016
He then answered questions:
Hugh Freeze on cheating rep. in recruiting: 'I don’t know that I’ll ever change that narrative, and I’ve got to come to grips with that.'
— Matt Baker (@MBakerTBTimes) May 31, 2016
Hugh Freeze on Laremy Tunsil's payment comment at NFL draft. "That certainly didn’t help the narrative."
— Matt Baker (@MBakerTBTimes) May 31, 2016
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze on any impact on recruiting: “It’s still going good. We’re still on the top guys (around) the nation"
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 31, 2016
Freeze: "I don't believe & have zero knowledge that any of our coaches have paid players. If I get that knowledge, there will be problems."
— Mark Long (@APMarkLong) May 31, 2016
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze: “In 2013, when I sent out my infamous tweet I ran it by my AD … if there are things wrong, we want to know"
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 31, 2016
The “infamous tweet” has since been deleted from Freeze’s account, but lives on in retweets from those such as Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman.
RT @CoachHughFreeze: If you have facts about a violation, email compliance@olemiss.edu. If not, please don't slander the young men

Freeze previously spoke to Tony Barnhart and ESPN.com on Monday. Video of the Destin press conference can be viewed be Barrett Sallee’s Periscope account:

It’s great to see a liar lie.
Maybe he can run as VP to Hillary.
It amazes me how everyone is so intent on seeing Ole Miss fall. It’s actually funny. In 2011 we weren’t even a topic of discussion. Now you guys can’t stop thinking about us.
But is it for a good reason or because you might have got caught stretching the rules?
Still posting on the taxpayers dime ?
I assure you, OM was the topic of many discussions in 2011.
1. I don’t care about ‘Ole Miss falling.
2. Cheating is not funny.
3. No one outside ‘Ole Miss is laughing.
4. ‘Ole Miss won’t be laughing much longer.
5. ‘Ole Miss hasn’t been a topic of discussion since the 70’s…until it was obvious they were paying players.
What I don’t understand is why ‘Ole Miss fans don’t understand we all knew when you went from decades of irrelevancy to signing #1’s and having top classes that you were cheating. ‘Ole Miss is in the state of Mississippi after all.
Additionally I understand homer disbelief, but when something everyone knows except you is laid bare at a highly publicized event, so that even you have to admit it, why do ‘Ole Miss fans choose to attempt propaganda at that time?
You’ll be really upset once the NCAA releases the punishment. It’s not going to be anywhere near what you’re thinking. And why couldn’t you guys just beat us on the field enough? If you keep beating us, recruits will stop coming. I really don’t care if we paid all our players. I really don’t. We haven’t. But you can’t reason with people. So, sorry you aren’t getting your wish. Try not to lose a third straight tim

ole miss is paying players like crazy
Yup. And we’re glad. Only problem is, how did we not get a LB this year? We needed one but he went to UCLA over Ole Miss and Bama. Guess he’d rather play for free in the PAC than for money at Ole Miss. Darn. We really need to start paying more. We all know Ole Miss never loses a recruiting battle and never will. Because from now on we will pay top dollar. We weren’t paying that much at first to be fair. But now? Watch out. We’re bringing out the sports cars, women, and 6 figure checks. You’ve been warned. Also, I’d like to point out this is a joke for those of you who have a hard time comphrending.
The NOI somehow forgets to mention ANY player from 2013 or any class recruited under Freeze as having received any money to sign with Ole Miss. Wasn’t that the narrative we’ve been hearing all this time? Class of 2016 was actually a higher rated class, overall. But with all eyes on us, not one from that stellar class has been found to accept money or even mentioned as a possibility. But I get your point on the LB question. Probably the first smoking gun as to our not paying players. C’mon! How did we forget to purchase a decent LB prospect? Did we really spend it all on WR’s all those years?
Wait, wasn’t Tunsil in the 2013 class? This is exactly like a iceberg. We know how many admitted to being paid (on live television no less), and if I were a betting man I’d say there were a whole lot of others we can’t see.
Lying Rev. Hugh Freeze at it again. Karma is a b1tch, ain’t it Armygoob?
The comments from the Ole Miss fans on this board, are really sad. We should parade all of you through the streets, like on Game of Thrones. Shame…. Shame…. Shame…..
Everyone desperately wants this to be like SMU in 1986. Personal attacks aimed at Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss. You all are acting like Ole Miss is a well-known habitual offender that somehow manages to just slip under the radar year after year by greasing palms.
Please don’t forget that Auburn has the 3rd most sanctioned program in all of college football, Alabama has the 4th, and Texas A&M the 9th. Ole Miss falls right behind MSU somewhere in the 20s.
The last time the Ole Miss had any MAJOR violations was in 1994.
In those 22 years Alabama had 3 MAJOR infraction cases brought against their football program (’95, ’02, ’09), MSU had 3 (’96, ’04, ’13), South Carolina had 2 (’05, ’12), Georgia had 1(’97), Kentucky had 1 (’02), Arkansas had 1 (’03), LSU had 1 (’11), Tennessee had 1 (’12) and Florida had 1 (’15). So it appears the only fans that can talk any $hit are Vanderbilt fans.
I am not saying that nothing happened, or that Ole Miss should not be punished if it did. But acting like Ole Miss is the only SEC program to ever commit any kind of violation or that Ole Miss is a repeat offender is absolutely laughable.
Best comment so far. The smelly pig pen of trolls are all waiting to see who’s got a better comeback. There’s now an akward “daddy just hit mommy” vibe now.
But damn son, 13 violations I’m 3 years….
you have a dirty mouth for a 3 year old.
