Jonathan Mingo did not have to wait long before hearing his name called on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft. He also winds up with an SEC quarterback to begin his NFL career.

Mingo landed with the Carolina Panthers as the 39th overall pick (8th pick of the second round). That means Mingo will team up with Alabama’s Bryce Young who became the first overall pick of this year’s draft after the Panthers traded up to the top spot.

The move also fills a position of need for Carolina. In order to trade up to the top pick, the Panthers had to include WR DJ Moore in the package that went to the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall pick.

Landing Mingo also guarantees the Panthers have one WR they are high on to give their rookie QB and future face of the franchise early in Young’s career.

During the 2022 season, Mingo finished second on Ole Miss with 51 catches for 861 receiving yards while adding 5 touchdowns. Fast and physical on the outside, we’ll see how the SEC combination of Young and Mingo pans out in Carolina.
