The state of Mississippi is going to be very interesting when it comes to SEC football this year, as Ole Miss has Lane Kiffin as its new head coach and Mississippi State hired Mike Leach this offseason.

That instantly makes the Egg Bowl even more interesting than it already was, as the 2 new coaches have quite the personalities.

Which coach’s debut is ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit most excited for? Speaking on “SportsCenter” on Saturday morning, Herbie said he likes all the talent on Kiffin’s roster:

“I’ll say Lane Kiffin,” Herbstreit said. “Lane Kiffin has a lot to work with. Matt Luke left him a lot of talent. He’s got a couple of quarterbacks he can use — Matt Corral can spin it. I think he’ll fit in well with what Lane Kiffin likes to do throwing the football quickly. John Rhys Plumlee is a wrinkle, an athletic guy who can run and throw. He’s got a lot of skill in the backfield and out at receiver. I think Lane has got more to work with, even though Mike Leach has KJ Costello coming over from Stanford. But I can’t wait to see Lane Kiffin’s offense with all that talent I mentioned.”

Mississippi State heads to Baton Rouge to take on reigning national champion LSU at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on CBS. Kiffin’s Ole Miss debut — a home game against Florida — kicks off at noon Eastern on ESPN.

Will either new coach pick up an upset win in Game No. 1? We’ll find out soon!
