Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels have a QB competition this spring. Competing for the QB1 job are 2022 starter Jaxson Dart, Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders and LSU transfer Walker Howard.

As the returning starter, Dart has plenty of confidence in his ability to win the job again in 2023.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Kiffin said he has seen major improvement from Dart due to the increased competition:

“I think it’s been great for him,” Kiffin said. “I think that it’s natural for us not to, you know, want competition around and certainly understand that but I think it’s been really good for him. He’s looked great, which is strange to say for returning a starter, he’s probably one of our most improved players out there. And he looks better physically, mentally, everything so we’ve been very excited about him so far.”

Where do things stand?

Ole Miss is unlikely to name a starting QB this spring. That means the competition will almost certainly carry over into fall camp.

Dart and Sanders seem like safe bets to be the frontrunners for the job, but Howard has plenty of potential, both for this season and beyond. Anything can happen as Week 1 approaches this fall.
