Talent has never been Chad Kelly’s problem. The former Ole Miss quarterback’s fall to the seventh round had nothing to do with his ability on the football field, and despite being taken with the final selection of the 2017 NFL Draft, he may be the most gifted passer on Denver’s roster.

That’s an opinion shared by former NFL general manager and Hall of Famer Bill Polian, who recently called Kelly “more talented” than Bronco veteran quarterbacks Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian. That’s a bold statement considering where Kelly was taken in the draft, but again, lack of talent wasn’t his issue.

Polian knows a thing or two about quarterback talent, he selected Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf with the first pick of the 1998 NFL Draft, obviously an easy pick in retrospect but it was a real debate at the time. The former GM admits Kelly has a long way to go and suggests the team’s new head coach won’t rush the rookie into the lineup.
