Ole Miss' big win against Furman broke several program records
Ole Miss rewrote the record books during its 76-0 win against Furman on Saturday.
The Rebels scored on 8 of their 9 1st-half possessions, opening up a 52-0 lead at the break. The 73 points they ended the evening with were the program’s most in the Associated Press poll era (dating back to 1936).
It’s the second year in a row Lane Kiffin’s team has scored 70 or more in the season opener. In 2023, they routed Mercer 73-7. No other SEC team has hit the 70-point plateau in back-to-back opening games.
In the passing game, Jaxson Dart was unstoppable, going for 418 yards in the 1st half before Austin Simmons came in and added 111 yards of his own. Their 529 combined passing yards set a program record.
It was easy pickings for a team looking to capitalize on the success of last year and find their way to the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. They host Middle Tennessee State in Week 2 before traveling to Wake Forest in Week 3.

-76 points, tied for its most in a game in the AP Poll Era

Furman ? ? Who dim ?
Pretty consistent FCS playoff team. Ranked around top 10. But we ( I got my BS from Furman and MS from Ole Miss) have no business playing top 25 teams anymore. We used to be able to hang for 2-3 quarters, but now those teams are fully professional. Many Furman fans are mad about the score but tell them to expect 80 pt losses in future. I don’t see how it’s worth the $500K check to be made fools of every year. Destroys morale.
