Traditionally, the fall football season precedes the winter months, and college football on the television makes the cold much more bearable.

In 2017, however, winter has come early. Season 7 of Game of Thrones, a critically-acclaimed HBO series that has become a worldwide phenomenon, premieres on July, 16, ushering in “the long night” and one of the worst winters in memory for the fictional continent of Westeros.

This date has been anticipated by Thrones fans for quite some time, and it’s clear that Ole Miss put a plan in place to take advantage of the occasion. Just a few hours prior to the show’s air time, the Rebels’ Twitter account posted a hype video that coincided with the season premiere.

With narration from one of the show’s most notable characters, Cersei Lannister, playing in the background, the video shows various Ole Miss rivals. While she explains that her house is surrounded by enemies in all directions, the Rebels’ own enemies are shown on the screen. The narration ends with a daunting call to action before an Ole Miss highlight clip is shown; “Whatever stands in our way, we will defeat it.”

Regardless of how many enemies the Rebels manage to defeat in 2017, however, they won’t be the ones sitting on the Iron Throne come season’s end. Hoping to head off greater penalties in its well-documented NCAA investigation, Ole Miss has imposed a bowl ban on itself for this season.
