The Ole Miss Rebels are off to a slow start in the 2021 recruiting cycle, but on Wednesday night, they got a huge boost.

That’s because 4-star S Tysheem Johnson announced at a ceremony on his birthday that he was committing to the Rebels over Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Maryland, Stanford and Arizona State.

Per 247Sports, Johnson explained what Ole Miss coaches said about his position in college:

“They said I could be back deep at safety, come down and guard slots, pick them up off the edge,” Johnson said. “They said I could be down in the box and help the run (defense) here and there. Be on kick return and punt return, and once I get comfortable on defense, they would move me to offense so I would be playing both sides.

“When that all generated in my mind, it’s the same thing I did in high school.”

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Johnson is the No. 18 safety in the class of 2021 and the No. 10 overall recruit from the state of Pennsylvania.

The Rebels now have 13 players in their 2021 recruiting class. Prior to Johnson’s commitment, the class ranked No. 61 in the nation and No. 13 in the SEC, per 247Sports.
