Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson comments on Ole Miss' bowl ban
Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson is the unquestioned future of the football program.
A much-ballyhooed recruit out of high school, he’s expected to take the reins from Chad Kelly and lead the Rebels to championship glory.
Unfortunately his journey towards a championship will be put on hold. Ole Miss instituted a self-imposed bowl ban after admitting to breaking several NCAA rules. As such, the program’s been in an understandably tumultuous state.
Rumors are flying around pertaining to the current players on the roster. Many assume some will jump ship. Other programs are certainly hoping this will happen — in terms of weakening Ole Miss’ roster as well as poaching players.
Patterson took to Twitter on Saturday, offering this message to the fan base in Oxford:
20 is ready to go..I love my school, coaches, teammates and our fans and I can't wait for the 2017 season together! Let's go! #HottyToddy
— Shea Patterson (@SheaPatterson_1) February 26, 2017
Ole Miss fans can breathe easy in knowing “the savior” will be sticking around.
Not to pile on, but we’ll see what happens once sanctions are announced. If there’s a two year post-season ban, that would likely encompass Patterson’s entire expected future in Oxford. He lost his redshirt last year when Kelly was hurt, and you have to expect him to be three-and-out if he lives up to his potential. Secondly, if the NCAA eases transfer rules post-sanctions like they did after the PSU hammer fell, that could be very enticing for a promising draft pick like Patterson. No requirement to sit out a season.
If things really go south, and Freeze and staff get the axe, and incoming talent dries up, why would Shea stay? I fully understand why he’s saying the things he is now, but the landscape may change dramatically in the near future.
They should absolutely be allowed to transfer without penalty if the people they committed to put their future at risk
Well said. I would just hope that if things do change to the point where it makes sense for Patterson to look at other options, I hope he is not criticized too harshly for changing his mind.
For the most part, the kids from USC and PSU stuck it out. No matter what decision any of these players ultimately make, if it even gets to that point, is totally their right. They shouldn’t be faulted for either decision.
Bless his heart.
He’ll be at MSU in 3 shakes of a taliewhacker.
That’s just stupid. If you are trying to be funny ok. If not, stupid!
Stupid is an understatement. His stupidity can turn wall paint grey.
It shames me that Ole Miss is the only SEC school to cheat…oh wait…we are just too dumb to cover our tracks like the big boys.
I believe you are right
They all cheat and only some get caught
I wish they would pay the players and quit pretending the “players” have any business in a University classroom
I could not disagree with you more. The day college players start getting salaries is the day they quit playing to the whistle. Wins and losses won’t mean a damn thing to them because they’re getting paid regardless. Salaries would also dim the desire to make it to the NFL creating kids wouldn’t try as hard in college to get to the next level. You’re creating a relationship between cheating and salaries as if giving them salaries would eliminate cheating. Well, I’ve got news for you. NFL teams cheat too, but in different ways. I swear, man, you just cannot stop spewing garbage ideas. Just like writers proofread before publishing, you need to “proofthink” before talking.
Folks, Seven thinks we at Kentucky has the greatest athletic director in college sports. Since 2002, Mitch Barnhart has managed to accumulate four SEC championships out side of men’s basketball. Barnhart has an associate AD named Peevy who deals with Calipari so he can handle the rest of his ‘successful’ lol, endeavors.
The AD at Kentucky downsized Commonwealth Stadium to make it look like we actually have crowds. And of course to ‘improve the program’. So if the program ‘improves’ we will have to increase the size of the stadium. Make sense?
If you want to see Seven’s intelligence level, hit on his name and see some of the posting he puts up. They ran him off the Lexington Herald years ago and went with you having to have a Facebook account to post. He ain’t appeared again. Seems he’s big on slander but hides.
I think Ole Miss is in a world of hurt from this situation. But I don’t think they are doing anything at least 10 other programs are guilty of off. I don’t have any idea the penalty they may suffer, but I doubt it will one that will keep the program down long.
Good luck!
What’s SevenT’s name?
Paris so glad you put in your two cents!
So according to you since Ole Miss is only doing what 10 other programs that makes it acceptable?
And as far as a university classroom, you have no room to speak. I will swear on my grandmother’s grave you have never been inside of a university classroom. The more you speak, the more you reveal yourself to be a complete moron. Your messages are absolutely moronic and you’re incapable of using correct punctuation. Those are two huge indicators you’ve never been to college, much less earned a degree.

Athletic departments create bogus classes for jocks not to educate them
They do it because the dumb jock reads at an 8th grade level
You are the dumbest person on the planet. That may be the case at Kentucky but to earn any degree at Ole Miss, the student-athlete must fulfill the requirements of that degree. There are specialized tutors for the athletes that need them but athletic departments don’t “create classes”. Your comments make me want to break out the popcorn. Just admit it. You’ve never been to college.

It is hard to type on a cell phone so excuse the spelling errors.
You are an intelligent person but you are naive about how far AD departments at D-1 schools will go to keep a player eligible.
I will give you two recent examples to look up for yourself. The University of North Carolina scandal and the University of Georgia scandal. Both programs were reprimanded by the NCAA for creating classes.
College Football and College Basketball is big business! The book value of major D-1 football programs approach the $100 M range. Players are the bread and butter.
I don’t know about what other schools are doing but as far as Ole Miss goes, the NCAA’s 4 year investigation would have discovered a “created class”. You shouldn’t believe all athletic departments “create classes” because one or two did. I’m well aware that schools cater to athletes in various ways but to suggest Ole Miss is creating classes because of some scandal at UNC and UGA makes you look naive.
The next time you feel like commenting, ask yourself this: are there facts from viable sources to prove my point? When in doubt, look it up before you write. Also, don’t generalize so much. Just because one person or school did something doesn’t mean anybody else is.

I never said Ole Miss was caught for academic shenanigans, I said bogus classes are created for dumb jocks all the time. And I said the academic system is corrupted because of the big time money in D-1 athletics.
I will bet that Ole Miss has a Sports Management or Kinseology major that is geared for the football team. I am sorry but those types of programs are a complete joke.
I also said you should pay the players because the majority (not all) have no business in any University classroom and they risk life altering injury every day on the football field.
The most popular major for football players at Ole Miss is General Studies. I looked it up. That’s not impressive, but none of these football programs are.
