The Ole Miss Rebels entered the 2018 SEC Baseball Tournament as the No. 2 seed, compiling a 45-15 record heading into Sunday’s championship game against LSU.

The Tigers were the hotter team, though, having just taken down No. 1 seed Florida 11-0 and No. 4 seed Arkansas 2-1. However, Ole Miss took an early 3-1 lead, a score that held into the top of the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU was threatening, loading the bases with only one out against Ole Miss ace Ryan Rolison. A pair of timely strikeouts sent the Rebels to the dugout with the score still at 3-1, and then the Ole Miss bats came alive.

Senior Will Golsan drove in two runs with a single to right field, and then senior Tim Rowe blasted a two-run homer to dead-center field to make the score 7-1.

The Tigers couldn’t mount a comeback, and Michael Fitzsimmons added a pinch-hit two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to give the Rebels a 9-1 victory.

The tournament victory was the third in program history for the Rebels, who won the inaugural SEC tourney back in 1977 and also took home the trophy in 2006.

Ole Miss almost certainly did enough to earn a regional hosting spot, and things aren’t all bad for LSU, as the Tigers had a strong enough showing to ensure they’ll be part of the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

We’ll find out who the Rebels are hosting and where the Tigers end up during the NCAA selection show at noon Eastern time on Monday on ESPNU.
