Middle Tennessee just missed out on the NCAA Tournament this year, despite putting together a solid record for the second season in a row.

However, coach Kermit Davis still drew the eyes of the Ole Miss Rebels, who hired him after coach Andy Kennedy resigned during the regular season.

Now it has been reported that Davis will have a four-year contract worth $2.5 million a year. Additionally, he’ll have a $900,000 assistant coach salary pool to use to fill out his staff:

After Georgia made a big splash by hiring Tom Crean, it is clear that SEC teams are willing to open up their wallets a bit more for top basketball coaches.

Whether this leads to an increase in the conference’s success in the postseason remains to be seen, but it’s a step in the right direction for SEC basketball.
