Some of the popular names this hiring cycle have already been mentioned for the Ole Miss coaching opening. But one new name emerged from the list as he’s reportedly reached out to officials at Ole Miss.

Hall of Fame linebacker and former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary has expressed interest in the vacancy, according to 247 Sports’ OM Spirit. The report also said that Singletary has even laid out a plan for the program, including a potential staff he would assemble, which included coaches currently on staff.

Singletary was 18-22 in three seasons as the head coach of the 49ers. He was a linebackers coach with the Minnesota Vikings from 2011-13 before spending the two years out of coaching. He was an analyst for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016.

The former Chicago Bears star is regarded as one of the best middle linebackers in NFL history.

The Ole Miss job is not the only one Singletary is apparently interested in. A report last week said he interviewed for a job with the Cleveland Browns.
