When Lane Kiffin took over as Ole Miss’s new head coach, Tyrone Nix — who served as the team’s outside linebackers coach in 2019 — was not retained.

Now, though, he’s landed a new job with a Conference USA squad, according to a report on Tuesday.

Per FootballScoop.com, Nix will be the defensive coordinator at UTSA on new coach Jeff Traylor’s staff:

Tyrone Nix has agreed in principle to be the defensive coordinator on Jeff Traylor’s first UTSA staff, sources told FootballScoop on Tuesday.

The contract has not been signed as of this writing, sources said, but Nix will be the Roadrunners’ defensive coordinator barring an unexpected late-stage breakdown in talks.

Traylor became the Roadrunners’ head coach after leaving the Arkansas coaching staff, where he was serving as the Razorbacks’ assistant head coach/running backs coach.

Nix has also served on staff at South Carolina and Texas A&M, in addition to other stops on his resume.
