Report: Ole Miss experiences COVID-19 'outbreak;' 13 student-athletes test positive
Notre Dame and North Carolina have experienced spikes in COVID-19 cases among the general student population, causing both schools to temporarily move to online-only learning.
On Wednesday, an outbreak was detected in the Ole Miss athletic department. In fact, it qualifies as an “outbreak” per Mississippi State Department of Health guidelines.
Per Sports Illustrated, 11 of the 13 players who tested positive play for the same sports team, though the sports themselves have yet to be identified:
All of the athletes who tested positive were tested earlier this week as part of a standard mass screening of athletes. Eleven of the 13 positive tests are members of the same team; information about which team has not been released.
Contact tracing will now begin for those players, who will isolate until they have recovered from the virus.
It remains to be seen if the 11 players were from the football team or not.
