According to the editor of Scout.com’s Ole Miss site, the Rebels have decided to ban defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche from playing in the Sugar Bowl.

Nkemdiche fell from an Atlanta hotel room earlier this month. Police charged him with possession of marijuana after finding seven rolled blunts in his room.

Part of the famed Class of 2013 at Ole Miss, Nkemdiche remains a top 10 projection by ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay.

Coach Hugh Freeze said Monday that Nkemdiche required stitches in his legs and back and had a swollen ankle. He also said it was not “cut and dry” whether the junior would play in the bowl game.

“I am sorry for putting coach Freeze in this position and will accept whatever consequences are necessary, but my hope is to finish this year’s journey with my brothers,” Nkemdiche said in a statement soon after that.

But Nkemdiche’s career at Ole Miss appears to be over one game sooner than expected.

According to The Clarion-Ledger, the Rebels likely will turn to redshirt freshman Breeland Speaks and JUCO transfer D.J. Jones in the game against the Cowboys.
