Ole Miss is being penalized by the SEC for fans’ behavior during last week’s thrilling upset over LSU.

Rebels fans threw trash on the field after an LSU touchdown call stood upon review, even though fans and the commentators thought the video suggested it was incomplete.

On Wednesday, the SEC announced that Ole Miss is being penalized for the delay caused by the trash thrown onto the field.

“The disruption and delay of Saturday night’s game must never be part of any SEC event,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a released statement. “These actions are consistent with the oversight assigned by the membership to the SEC office, including the financial penalty and mandated reviews.”

The SEC will deduct $75,000 from the program’s share of conference revenue distribution. The conference is also calling on the school to use all available resources to determine the fans who threw objects and ban those fans from attending any Ole Miss athletics events for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. The athletic department is also required to review procedures and submit a report to the SEC summarizing its efforts to prevent future incidents.

Ole Miss was also fined $100,000 by the SEC for fans storming the field after the 55-49 win over LSU.
