Purdue quarterback Aidian O’Connell will not play in the Citrus Bowl, according to a report from Pete Thamel. Instead, he will begin preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft.
O’Connell was considered one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the nation by many ahead of the season and finished out the year with a completion percentage of 64.1%, 3,490 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
He finishes his college career with a 66.7% completion rate, 9,219 passing yards, 65 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Purdue and LSU are set to face each other at noon CT on Jan. 2 in the bowl game matchup. O’Connell is currently projected to be a late-round draft pick. It will be interesting to watch how O’Connell’s decision could lead to more opt-outs as the team prepares to play with its backup quarterback.
