11 SEC underclassmen have declared for the NFL Draft so far
The deadline to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, so SEC underclassmen are making big decisions about their futures.
Several big-name players have yet to make decisions, but nearly a dozen have already declared for the draft.
Auburn is getting hit particularly hard, as four Tigers have already declared, but other schools (like Alabama and Georgia) will surely lose some talented players, too.
NFL.com has a running list of which juniors have declared, and it can be found here. Here are the 11 SEC players to throw their names into the NFL Draft thus far:
- Kerryon Johnson, RB, Auburn
- Kamryn Pettway, RB, Auburn
- Carlton Davis, DB, Auburn
- Jeff Holland, LB, Auburn
- Eddy Pineiro, K, Florida
- Taven Bryan, DL, Florida
- Breeland Speaks, DL, Ole Miss
- Hayden Hurst, TE, South Carolina
- John Kelly, RB, Tennessee
- Rashaan Gaulden, DB, Tennessee
- Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M
It’ll be interesting to see where those players get drafted and by which teams, but once again, there are sure to be plenty of SEC players — both underclassmen and seniors — who hear their name called in April.
Don’t forget Antonio Callaway.
Guice should make a decision to go as well. Would be a huge risk for him to return, though I’d love to have him back.
I don’t even think it’s about the money anymore. I think it’s about getting a chance to play in the NFL, period. If a player messing up their draft stock by getting hurt then chances they will get a shot at the 52 will become slimmer, depending on how far they fall. It sucks for the fans, but ultimately, it may be in their best interest to leave when given a shot.
For kids from poor backgrounds, of course it is about the money.
And if anyone knows this kids story, they’re pulling for him to make it to the NFL and not risk what would be a life changing experience like getting drafted in the first round.
I understand the value of a bank account with six zeros in it. I’m saying if a person is injured he will be kissing that all goodbye. Money and risks are interchangeable, so to speak. I mainly posted for the people who want to get all upset about players leaving early.
No fan likes his school’s players to leave early, but no one should get upset with these guys when they leave early or even transfer. They have to do what is best for their future.
Facts.
Not sure graduate student Hayden Hurst really counts as an underclassman, but I get what you mean
