Three-star defensive end Kier Thomas hasn’t taken an official visit or even an unofficial visit to South Carolina. His only time on the campus was during a prospect bus tour over the summer.

However, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman from Miami, has plenty of familiarity with South Carolina coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and that could net the Gamecocks a commitment from Thomas over the next couple of weeks.

Thomas plans to be an early enrollee which means he will not have time to take an official visit to South Carolina before the end of the dead period so his move would be mostly based on the relationship he has with Muschamp and Robinson.

“Coach Muschamp, T-Rob, they’ve been recruiting me since day one,” Thomas said after helping Miami Central win the Florida Class 6A football championship on Saturday. “When they went to South Carolina that was a big thing for me.”

Thomas has taken official visits to Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn. The Tigers, however, have been eliminated with the departure of Muschamp and Robinson.

Thomas originally committed to Florida State and says the Seminoles are back in the picture along with Miami and South Florida.

Thomas hinted he could take an official to Miami or USF after the game Saturday but was more interested in celebrating a fourth-straight state championship with his teammates.

“South Carolina, FSU, Tennessee and Arkansas are pretty much the top choices,” Thomas said. “I’m going to try to make my decision before January 1.”
