4-star 2019 WR TJ Sheffield says Notre Dame turned down his commitment

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were contending for a spot in the College Football Playoff last year, but came up just short.

Even though the Irish have rejoined the ranks of the elite in college football, it still seems odd for them to turn down a commitment from a 4-star wide receiver.

However, that’s exactly what 2019 WR TJ Sheffield said happened to him, as you can see in the note he posted on Twitter below:

Obviously, that’s a strange story, but if what Sheffield says is true, he comes off very well in this, as the note was very classy.

Sheffield, a Tennessee native, is the No. 38 wide receiver in the class of 2019 and the No. 9 overall recruit in the state of Tennessee, according to the 247Sports composite.

Could this open the door for Tennessee to swoop in and land the talented receiver? Only time will tell.
