One Akron football player accidentally shot another early Saturday morning.

According to a report from The Akron Beacon Journal, Zips WR Andrew Pratt is expected to recover after being shot in the stomach by Akron OT Scott Boyett.

Pratt and Boyett reportedly have separate apartments at an off-campus house, and police say that Boyett mistook Pratt for a burglar when he entered Boyett’s apartment at 3 a.m. without knocking or making himself known.

After realizing his mistake, Boyett reportedly rushed Pratt to the emergency room at Akron’s Children’s Hospital.

Police reportedly questioned both players and determined that no charges would be filed for what appears to have been an honest mistake.

Pratt is reported to be in stable condition after being transferred to a Cleveland-area hospital.

Akron Athletics Director Larry Williams issued a statement Saturday evening:

“We are saddened and concerned to learn of this situation and we hope that Andrew recovers fully,” he wrote. “While we know the incident occurred at an off-campus location, we will wait to learn more from the Akron Police Department about what occurred. We are keeping Andrew in our thoughts and prayers.”

There is no word yet on whether Akron coach Terry Bowden, who is a former Auburn head coach, will discipline any players as a result of this event.
