If Florida State thought the reaction to hiring offensive coordinator Kendal Briles was bad, imagine what Southern Miss is about to experience should his father Art land the same position at Southern Miss.

Briles has not coached since being fired by Baylor during the 2016 offseason following the shocking revelations regarding several instances of alleged sexual assault, including gang rape, came to light in Waco. It is alleged that both the football program and the administration down at Baylor worked to cover up those crimes during Briles’ watch.

While many would be stunned to see Briles land another college coaching job, that may soon happen as Patrick Magee of the Sun Herald is reporting that Art Briles is set to interview for the open offensive coordinator position on Jay Hopson’s staff in Hattiesburg. Southern Miss went 6-5 last season in Hopson’s third season leading the program.

Briles has a career college head coaching record of 99-65 with a 65-37 record at Baylor. Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, he was a successful high school coach in Texas.
