Alabama has one of the stingiest run defenses in the entire country. The Crimson Tide are currently ranked first in rushing defense in the SEC, and fourth in nation. They only allow an average of 56.8 yards per game. The next best rushing defense in the SEC is Arkansas, which allows 37 more yards per game.

This Saturday, however, Alabama’s rush defense will be introduced to one of the premier running backs in the SEC in Georgia running back Nick Chubb. In preparation for Georgia and Chubb’s impending game against Alabama, let’s look back at the five best running back performances against Alabama in the last five seasons:

5. RB Jeremy Hill in 2012: Alabama won this matchup against LSU by four points, but not before Hill ran for 107 rushing yards over 29 carries. He also had a touchdown, and his longest run was 19 yards. Hill was LSU’s leading running back that year, and finished the season with 755 yards. To compare, Leonard Fournette is LSU’s lead rusher this year and already has 631 rushing yards on the season. He’s played three games.

4. RB Todd Gurley in 2012: The Crimson Tide did not have the pleasure of meeting Nick Chubb last season. However, three seasons ago they did have the chance to meet Georgia’s last running back sensation. Gurley was a workhorse during this game, ending with 23 carries for 122 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. His longest run was for 18 yards.

3. RB Trey Edmunds in 2013: In a surprising turn of events, a non-SEC running back proved he was capable of picking apart the Alabama run defense to notch a respectable performance. Virginia Tech’s ball carrier ran for 132 yards over 20 carries and 1 touchdown. His longest run was 77 yards. While Edmunds put up big numbers, his team did not. Alabama beat Virginia Tech 35-10.

2. RB Tre Mason in 2013: Alabama may be sick of hearing about Kick Bama Kick, but this loss against Auburn will forever be written into Crimson Tide history. Outside of that miracle play, Mason also rushed for 164 yards over 29 carries and 1 touchdown. His longest carry of the game was 40 yards.

1. RB Ezekiel Elliott in 2014: This performance could only be from the game all Alabama fans would like to forget. Ohio State’s running back blasted through the Alabama defense in an unprecedented manner, rushing for 230 yards over 20 carries for 2 touchdowns. His longest run was for 85 yards. This was not the way the Alabama defense envisioned its College Football Playoff debut.
