Brett Yormark won’t be on hand for his conference’s final Red River Rivalry clash.

ESPN’s Heather Dinich shared Monday that the Big 12 commissioner won’t be on hand for Oklahoma and Texas’ Saturday showdown in Dallas. Yormark told Dinich that Greg Sankey is attending the contest, and he agrees with ceding the game to the teams’ future conference commissioner.

Yormark isn’t on the best of terms with Oklahoma and Texas in the Sooners’ and Longhorns’ final seasons with the conference. In July, Yormark publicly dismissed talk of Oklahoma and Texas “carrying the conference.”

“I don’t think they’ve carried the conference in recruiting,” Yormark said at Big 12 Media Days. They haven’t been in our championship game the past few years.”

The Big 12 commissioner made more headlines in August when he boasted to a Texas Tech audience that the conference was “able” to get the Sooners and Longhorns to leave early, and publicly called on the Red Raiders to defeat Texas.

“Candidly, we were able to get Texas and Oklahoma out (of the Big 12) a year early. That was a big deal for us and I think all of you,” said Yormark. “And Coach (Joey McGuire), I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving. And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year.”

Unsurprisingly, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian did not appreciate Yormark’s comments.

“You know, I got a letter from the commissioner about sportsmanship the day before that speech,” Sarkisian said the following week. “So I’m trying to figure out what we’re promoting to our student-athletes, then to go say those types of things. I’m not guessing he’s going to have his Thanksgiving dinner with us the night before that game.”

Commissioner drama aside, Saturday’s rivalry clash in Dallas is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season. No. 3 Texas and No. 12 Oklahoma both enter the showdown undefeated. The game is set for a noon ET kickoff and will air on ABC.
