Brett Yormark opened Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday and addressed several of the issues the conference is facing as it starts a new chapter.

One of the major talking points in college sports is realignment, and which conferences are looking to add teams. Yormark was asked about seeking 2 more teams, and he said there is strength in numbers, but the conference is not chasing a number after Oklahoma and Texas leave for the SEC. York further explained that Power 5 or not, if a school aligns, it would be attractive to Big 12.

“We have a plan for expansion and I’m not going to really address it today,” the commissioner said. “We do have a plan and hopefully we can execute that plan sooner than later. If we stay at 12, we’re perfectly fine with that.”

Asked about Oklahoma and Texas “carrying the conference” in recruiting, Yormark replied, “I don’t think they’ve carried the conference in recruiting. They haven’t been in our championship game the past few years.”

Earlier, Yormark added, “This conference is bigger than any 2 schools.”
