Brett Yormark is adjusting to life as Big 12 Commissioner just fine. In his first year, Yormark has overseen the organization of Texas and Oklahoma’s eventual departure to the SEC in 2024 while adding a number of Pac-12 programs in the latest round of realignment.

Now, Yormark is taking some shots at the Longhorns and Sooners ahead of their swansong season in the Big 12. He delivered those remarks while making a Wednesday appearance at Texas Tech’s Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon.

“Candidly, we were able to get Texas and Oklahoma out (of the Big 12) a year early. That was a big deal for us and I think all of you,” said Yormark. “And Coach (Joey McGuire), I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving. And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year.”

To call Yormark’s comments interesting is an understatement, to say the least. While Texas and Oklahoma had already announced plans to leave for the SEC, it is unlikely the arranged early departure for the 2 prominent programs will be seen as a win for the Big 12.

Then, there are Yormark’s comments about pulling for Texas Tech to beat the Longhorns in Austin. That might be a sentiment shared by a number of Big 12 fans, but it is still odd to see a commissioner openly pulling for one program in any matchup on the football field.
