The conference championship game will come back to the Big 12 starting in 2017.

The Big 12 board unanimously approved the move Friday, and some big dollars are expected to follow as a result. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby predicted the game will produce about $30 million for the league each year.

The Big 12 held a conference title game from 1996 to 2010, before Nebraska joined the Big Ten and Missouri and Texas A&M left for the SEC. With the SEC, ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 all holding conference championship games, it makes sense for the Big 12 to do so as well.

It’s about time, Big 12.
