CBS gets hammered on social media during halftime show for Chiefs-Bengals game
By Adam Spencer
Published:
CBS was on the broadcast for the Cincinnati Bengals-Kansas City Chiefs AFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.
The broadcast was solid, as Jim Nantz and Tony Romo were on the mic for the Chiefs’ dominant 21-10 performance over the first 2 quarters.
But, the halftime show was another story entirely. Walker Hayes, the country singer who sings “Fancy Like,” was the halftime performer.
Host James Brown even joked about practicing sign language, as the analysts couldn’t hear each other on set either:

Let’s just say the audio engineer for CBS is taking plenty of heat on Twitter for the way the halftime show on CBS sounded:

Honestly, it wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t the corny Applebees song drowning out the halftime analysis. https://t.co/WMxxUxjTLs

It’s truly amazing those guys were able to talk uninterrupted with that sound in their ears. I can’t imagine how distracting it was. Boomer was the only one who even acknowledged it.

Really good job setting the CBS desk next to the speaker for the halftime show

Say a prayer for the CBS staffer in charge of sound on halftime set. #CINvsKC

Yikes, don’t think CBS realized how disruptive the Walker Hayes halftime show would be during *their* halftime show. Can’t heard a word.
More importantly: Forcing sports fans to hear MORE of the Applebee’s song should be penalized with a loss & elimination, Chiefs.

What a way for CBS to end its final NFL broadcast of the year!
