Coastal Carolina University’s cheerleaders have been suspended after shocking allegations made in an anonymous letter sent to the school’s president, according to a report by WMBF NBC Myrtle Beach.

The letter was reportedly mailed to CCU president David DeCenzo on March 7, and included allegations of prostitution, purchasing alcohol for underage team members and paying others to do homework.

One cheerleader spoke to WMBF on the condition of anonymity saying that the team was approached by police and an investigator with CCU Department of Public Safety outside of practice Wednesday and were called in for questioning, where their cell phones were searched. She says that they were allowed to leave at 11 p.m. and told they had done nothing wrong.

“At this time, we can only confirm the suspension because this is an ongoing investigation,” Vice President of Communications William M. Plate told The State in an email.

The team responded to the news with a statement to The Sun News denying the allegations and stating the reports have led to harassment on campus and online:

“At this point in time, we no longer wish to be contacted about the current situation. The false accusations have led to harassment on campus as well as through social media, and are beginning to negatively impact our daily lives as well as our studies. As a team we ask the community to support us through these tough times as we hope the situation will be cleared up shortly.”
