The first installment of the College Football Playoff Rankings come out Tuesday night, and everyone will be tuning into how the Playoff selection committee ranks the teams.

Will Alabama be No. 1? Where will LSU be ranked? Is Clemson the second-best team in the country? Is Notre Dame really one of the four best teams?

We’re going to learn a lot, but we also have a good idea as to how the selection committee will rank the four teams.

Below is how we predict the committee will rank the Top 4, not how we rank them:

1. Alabama Crimson Tide
2. Clemson Tigers
3. LSU Tigers
4. Notre Dame

The first two out will be No. 5 Michigan and No. 6 Georgia.

A few thoughts on how and why things may play out Tuesday night with the first rankings:

  • There’s a chance Clemson could be ranked No. 1 over Alabama, but it’s highly unlikely with an undefeated Crimson Tide team sitting there.
  • LSU has the best body of work of any team in the entire country, and the committee will reward them for it. The Tigers should be No. 3.
  • Undefeated Notre Dame should be ranked No. 4. The strength of schedule has taken a hit, but the Irish have looked impressive and have taken care of business.
  • One thing that is of particular interest is where UCF will be ranked. The Knights could be in the top 10, and if that happens, there’s a chance UCF could somehow get into the top four with chaos.
