ESPN’s “College GameDay” had a viral moment for the wrong reason on Saturday.

Desmond Howard gave the show an awkward moment that was captured on video when he appeared to say, “Rece Davis — is Desmond Howard going to have to choke a bitch?” in reference to a question from Davis about Michigan.

In the videos captured of the clip, it’s not 100 percent clear if Howard says “going to have to choke a b–––” or the sports-themed version of the line “…going to have to Djokovic?” (a play on professional tennis player Novak Djokovic, a line ESPN personalities have used over the years). Nick Schwartz of For The Win hears Howard saying “Djokovic,” but why Howard would be referencing a professional tennis player on “GameDay” is unclear. Either way, the college football analyst felt the need to apologize.

“I’m a big Wayne Brady fan. I made a comment that was supposed to be taken as a joke. If I offended anybody, I apologize,” Howard said on “GameDay.” The “choke” line comes from a famous Chappelle’s Show sketch in which Wayne Brady shows his “dark side,” poking fun at his “good-guy” image.
