Our Week 5 College Football Picks

Andrew Olson

Caleb Williams, USC: Lower than 351.5 passing yards

Williams set his season-high for passing yards in Week 4, going for 322 against Arizona State. After last week’s Colorado-Oregon game, it’s hard to see Lincoln Riley calling for Williams to throw for 352 yards.

Graham Mertz, Florida: Higher than 190.5 passing yards

Kentucky’s defensive strategy will almost certainly be focused on containing Florida running backs Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson, forcing the Gators to throw to move the ball. UF hasn’t shown much of a vertical passing attack, but Mertz managed to dink and dunk his way to 333 passing yards on the road against a stout Utah defense. With Tre Wilson back in the lineup, Mertz and the Gators will get the passing game going on Saturday.

KJ Jefferson, Arkansas: Higher than 265.5 pass+rush yards

Arkansas faces a Texas A&M defense that got shredded by Miami and made life absolutely miserable for Auburn. Credit to the Aggies for shutting down the Tigers, but Jefferson presents a different kind of challenge than AU’s offensive mess. In likely his last Southwest Classic, Jefferson shows out at Jerry World.

Adam Spencer

Ricky Pearsall, Florida: Higher than 66.5 receiving yards

To piggyback off of one of Andy’s picks, Pearsall has been the Gators’ go-to guy this year. If Mertz is going to throw for higher than his total, at least 67 of those yards will likely be to Pearsall, who has made some amazing catches already this year.

Max Johnson, Texas A&M: Higher than 1.5 TD passes

I like Max Johnson. Yes, it sucks that the Aggies lost Conner Weigman to a season-ending injury, but they have one of the best backup QBs in the conference. Johnson threw 2 touchdown passes in limited action against Auburn. Over a full game against Arkansas, he’ll get 2 more.

Brock Bowers, Georgia: Higher than 0.5 rush+receiving TDs

Bowers is a legitimate threat to score either as a runner or a receiver. Auburn has a solid defense, but the Tigers haven’t faced a player like Bowers yet. He’ll find the end zone at least 1 time in this intense SEC rivalry game.

Our Week 4 NFL Picks

Andrew Olson

Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons: Higher than 6.0 kicking points

Atlanta faces a Jacksonville defense that was embarrassed at home by the Houston Texans in a 37-17 loss. Even if the Jaguars make some improvements away from home in London, the Falcons should have plenty of scoring opportunities.

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: Higher than 284.5 passing yards

The Chargers are just 1-2, but Herbert is on a fantasy heater with 710 passing yards and 5 touchdowns in his last 2 games. Las Vegas has a solid pass defense, but got to let it ride with Herbert at home.

Adam Spencer

Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins: Higher than 51.5 rushing yards

I don’t expect Mostert and Devon Achane and the Dolphins to explode for 70 more points this week like they did against the Broncos, but Mostert is still RB1 in Miami. Buffalo’s run defense has been iffy this year. They’re allowing the most yards after contact in the NFL. Mostert won’t have a 200-yard day, but 52 yards is an incredibly low bar to reach.

Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans: Higher than 63.5 total yards

Is this the game Pierce finally has his breakout? The Steelers’ run defense has been terrible thus far, so Pierce should have room to run. The Texans’ passing game has been stronger than anticipated, too. This pick is also the $100K Sunday selection for Underdog. Of players who pick Pierce’s higher/lower total as part of a contest, 10 lucky users will win $10K each!
