ESPN likes its personalities to “embrace debate.” Analysts Greg McElroy and Danny Kanell did just that on Sunday.
McElroy, a former Alabama quarterback (2007-10), called out “haters” of the UA-LSU game, a 10-0 victory for the Crimson Tide Saturday night:
People hating on #BAMAvsLSU are crazy.
Every snap mattered.
Every mistake was magnified.
Every yard was earned.Classic football game.

Kanell, a former FSU quarterback (1992-95) and vocal critic of the SEC, couldn’t resist replying to McElroy:
You forgot QB play was subpar. And I'm being kind. #SECspin https://t.co/72OhdEoXMY

The two went back and forth a bit, comparing low-scoring football games to low-scoring baseball games and offense in the SEC to defense in the Big 12:
I'd prefer to watch great TEAMS play as opposed to great QBs.
If Okla vs. Tex Tech was more your style, then I have no problem with that https://t.co/wwMqtaWYVn

Exactly. both were extreme cases. And both should be treated as such. Neither should be classified as "great games". https://t.co/hD3cZ02pj8

.@dannykanell answer me this. In the World Series, if the Cubs/Indians were tied 0-0 thru 8th innings, would YOU be critical of the batters?
— Greg McElroy (@GregMcElroy) November 6, 2016
.@GregMcElroy it depends on who is pitching. If it was a couple of middle relievers i absolutely would. So I'll ask u: are those QB's great?

SEC Network’s Booger McFarland and Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman came to the defense of McElroy about the quality of Saturday’s primetime showdown from Death Valley:
One of the things that made it unique: so few missed tackles for 3 QTRs. Pretty rare in CFB these days
