In the Week 8 AP Poll, Georgia was the No. 3 team in the country, while fellow SEC powerhouse Alabama held down the No. 1 spot.

However, following the Bulldogs’ Week 8 bye, ESPN has dropped them a spot in their most-recent top-five power rankings.

As you can see below, Alabama is still No. 1, followed by Penn State, but TCU jumped Georgia into the No. 3 spot, with Clemson checking in at No. 5:

TCU thrashed Kansas 43-0, but one could make the argument that beating Kansas is actually worse than not having a game at all.

However, the Bulldogs have a big game against Florida next weekend, so they’ll have a chance to jump back up in the rankings if they can take care of business against the Gators.

It’s still early, so the top four teams in the country still have plenty of time to separate themselves from the rest of the pack before it’s time to decide who goes to the College Football Playoff and who gets left out.
