As the top four teams in the mix to be selected to play in the College Football Playoff firm up, ESPN experts have focused on largely Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State, with Notre Dame to a lesser degree as the No. 4 team.

Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State were unanimous picks among the 14 ESPN experts who offer their opinions each week, while Notre Dame was on 11 of the 14 ballots. The three other teams considered were Cincinnati, Georgia and Texas A&M. The Big 12 appears to be on the outside looking in from the Playoff, after Oklahoma State fell out of the picks following a 41-34 overtime loss to Texas.

A key game arrives this week when Clemson meets Notre Dame, and will play without star QB Trevor Lawrence, who is still dealing with a positive case of COVID-19. Notre Dame had a 31-13 victory at Georgia Tech, and for the second straight week, the Fighting Irish are the most popular pick for the fourth spot, but that could change next week, when Clemson travels to South Bend. The game between the two top-four teams should have the biggest playoff impact of any game left on the college football schedule.

Outside of that, the only other obvious shakeup — outside of an Ohio State upset — is a possible upset in the SEC Championship Game provided the Crimson Tide represent the SEC West in Atlanta.
