The quarterback position is one of the biggest question marks in the SEC this season.

The 2013 lineup featuring Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron and Johnny Manziel, among others, seems like a distant memory, and it has media members questioning the near future of the conference.

Only a handful of experienced returners return this season, headlined by Dak Prescott and Joshua Dobbs, and teams are counting on less experienced players like Jeremy Johnson to step up and fill a big role.

ESPN recently ranked the SEC’s quarterback position, and here are the results:

1. Mississippi State Bulldogs
2. Tennessee Volunteers
3. Auburn Tigers
4. Texas A&M
5. Missouri Tigers
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
7. Kentucky Wildcats
8. Georgia Bulldogs
9. Alabama Crimson Tide
10. LSU Tigers
11. Ole Miss Rebels
12. Florida Gators
13. South Carolina Gamecocks
14. Vanderbilt Commodores

Few takeaways:

  • Had it been left up to me, Mississippi State and Auburn would have the two elite positions entering the season. I like what Joshua Dobbs brings to the table, and he’s the more proven player than Jeremy Johnson. Both Auburn and Tennessee have unproven players behind their starters.
  • It would be hard not to put Texas A&M in the top three entering the season. Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray make a formidable duo, two former No. 1  quarterbacks in the country.
  • Kentucky is sitting in a very good position, and few are talking about it. Patrick Towles and Drew Barker make a very solid and talented duo.
