Which SEC program is sitting the prettiest at running back?

That’s a loaded question for a loaded position.

RELATED: SEC Network ranks the conference’s running backs

2015 should be one of the best years in league history for elite running back play, and several teams have a cast of backs who could start on a majority of teams around the country.

Arkansas’ backfield recently took a hit with Jonathan Williams’ season-ending injury, but the Hogs are still deep at the position.

You can see SDS’ position rankings here, and below are are ESPN’s rankings of the running back group:

1. Georgia Bulldogs
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
3. LSU Tigers
4. Tennessee Volunteers
5. Auburn Tigers
6. Missouri Tigers
7. Arkansas Razorbacks
8. Mississippi State Bulldogs
9. South Carolina Gamecocks
10. Florida Gators
11. Texas A&M Aggies
12. Kentucky Wildcats
13. Ole Miss Rebels
14. Vanderbilt Commodores

Takeaways:

  • Arkansas was ranked No. 7 due to Williams’ injury, ESPN noted.
  • One team that has a lot of value and upside this season is Kentucky, ranked at No. 12. Boom Williams should be the leading rusher and biggest difference-maker, but Mikel Horton and the speedy Jojo Kemp will certainly be assets. If the passing game can attack downfield, the Cats’ running game has a lot to like this year.
  • If Tennessee can find a steady No. 3 back behind the bruising Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara, the Vols could jump into the top three.
  • Ole Miss has arguably the worst position in the conference. Jalen Walton is a nice changeup, but he’s not an every-down back. A big-time running back would be a huge asset for the Rebels.
