New No. 1 prospect emerges in ESPN's updated 2017 recruiting rankings
There’s a new No. 1 prospect for the Class of 2017, and he’s in SEC territory.
At least that’s according to ESPN, which now has uncommitted offensive tackle Trey Smith out of Jackson, Tenn. as the top-rated recruit in the cycle.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder has offers from every SEC school with the exception of Missouri and South Carolina. He also has offers from several other top schools such as Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford and USC.
Coaches from Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Tennessee are the only ones to pay a visit to Smith so far.
The No. 1 player in 247Sports’ composite rankings is still Alabama RB commit Najee Harris. He’s slotted as the second-highest committed player in ESPN’s rankings behind UCLA OLB commit Jaelan Phillips.
ESPN’s top-rated QB prospect is currently pledged to Michigan, and that’s pro-style QB Dylan McCaffrey, brother of Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey.
Here’s a look at how many commits each SEC school has in the updated ESPN300. Ohio State leads the way among all schools so far with 10.
