The SEC is starting to look top-heavy. With Texas A&M experiencing an up-and-down Year 2 of the Jimbo Fisher era, most experts are focusing on just five of the 14 SEC teams. Those five teams, however, are among the 10 best in college football.
ESPN has updated its Power Rankings after Week 5’s action. What’s different about ESPN’s rankings, than say most polls, is that the World Wide Leader’s power rankings aren’t afraid to drop teams for not playing. Chris Low slides both Georgia and LSU down a few spots from their Week 4 power rankings since the Bulldogs and Tigers were both off in Week 5. Unsurprisingly, Low also moved Auburn up after AU’s blowout win over Mississippi State.
Here’s how Low ranks the five undefeated SEC teams:
- No. 1 Alabama
- No. 3 Auburn
- No. 5 Georgia
- No. 7 LSU
- No. 9 Florida
As for Texas A&M, the Aggies were still ranked in the AP Top 25 entering Week 5, but they weren’t in Low’s ESPN Power Rankings after Week 4. The 31-27 win over Arkansas wasn’t enough to get TAMU back in Low’s Top 25. Low’s full rankings can be found here.
