As host of ESPN’s College GameDay, Rece Davis is one of the more recognizable voices in college football. So he was a go-to person Wednesday evening when news broke that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was placed on administrative leave following a report about allegations of domestic abuse involving a former assistant coach.

Davis said on ESPN that he believes Meyer’s future at the university is coming to an end, and it’s a matter of working out how the exit would occur.

“This is my judgement of the situation, and I don’t have any inside information that would make this absolute fact,” Davis said on ESPN. “But my immediate reaction when I hear he’s placed on administrative leave is that they’re negotiating details of separation. I mean, that’s what you think in Urban and his statement I read a few moments ago. My guess is they’re already negotiating.”

Twice during the segment, Davis made clear that he didn’t have direct knowledge of the discussions on campus, but that it was his interpretation.

“Do I know that for a fact? No, but typically I think this is the way this is handled,” he said. “You’re placed on paid administrative leave. That’s usually code for we’re working out how we’re going to end this. Now, that may prove not to be the case.”

In an earlier tweet, Davis noted that there wasn’t much off-the-field news in college football this summer as preseason camps are set to open this week.
