Forty-one bowl games. Eighty FBS teams.

Bowl committees are scrambling since there likely won’t be enough six-win, bowl-eligible teams in college football this season.

Several bowl games could be eyeing 5-7 teams, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, one of several postseason gurus who, like bowl committees, knows an emergency plan to fill spots must be in place.

“Whichever school can promise the most tickets and those sort of things. It will be like the old days of giving out bowl bids (to fill the bowls): like the wild, wild West,” a source told McMurphy.

Heading into Week 12, there are 62 bowl-eligible teams with 32 additional teams hovering around the possibility of six wins. Many of those 32 teams are underdogs over the final two weeks and some play each other, meaning there are several 5-7 teams that will be prime candidates to fill postseason games.
