For the first time ever, SEC Championship Game will feature a rivalry game
Since the first SEC Championship Game back in 1992, there has never been a title matchup between annual rivals.
However, following Auburn’s win over No. 1 Alabama in Saturday’s Iron Bowl, we’ll finally get a matchup that occurs every year being played again for a conference title.
That’s because Auburn will face Georgia in a rematch of The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry next weekend in Atlanta with a likely spot in the College Football Playoff on the line:

It’s also the first time since 2010 that two teams that played during the regular season will meet in the title game:
Auburn vs. Georgia for the SEC Championship will be the first regular season rematch since 2010 – the first in the SEC since league expanded to 14 teams in 2012.

As we all know, the Tigers beat then-No. 1 Georgia 40-17 earlier this season in a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It’s tough to beat a team twice in such a short period of time, but the Tigers are playing some of the best football in the country at the moment.
Next weekend’s game in Atlanta is sure to be a great one, and both teams will have plenty of motivation, as it is likely a College Football Playoff elimination game.
